details
Located at the heart of the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village 2018, the Parklands Disk is the focal point of the village. It was designed in reference to the Natural Arch waterfall, a local ecological gem in the Springbrook National Park. The disk is built like an aircraft wing clad with ShapeShell, sitting 25m in diameter and cantilevering 15m from the last support. The disc was fitted out with LED lighting and aquatics to create a water fall through the central oculus which creates a serine atmosphere during the day and night. Style lines were built integral to the complex geometry to accentuate the unique aerodynamics of the disc.
